Cambridge IELTS 9 Test 1 Task 1 Writing: Model Essay & Practice

Task 1210 WordsBand 8.0+

The provided maps illustrate the evolution of an island from its original natural state to a developed tourist resort following the construction of various facilities. Overall, the island underwent a comprehensive transformation, seeing the establishment of numerous buildings and infrastructure designed to accommodate visitors. This development notably concentrated in the central and western parts, while also adding a significant pier on its southern coast. Prior to development, the island was an untouched landmass, characterized by a few scattered palm trees and a sandy beach stretching along its western edge. In contrast, the 'After' map reveals a bustling resort. A dedicated swimming beach now occupies the western tip, while the central area is dominated by a reception building, around which multiple accommodation units are clustered. To the north of the reception, a restaurant has been constructed, strategically positioned near the coastline. Furthermore, a network of footpaths facilitates access between these newly built structures and also extends to more accommodation units situated towards the eastern side of the island. On the southern coast, a substantial pier has been erected, providing mooring for two boats and directly connecting to the central reception via an additional footpath. The existing palm trees appear to have been largely integrated into the resort's landscape, rather than removed.
