Cambridge IELTS 13 Test 1 Task 1 Writing: Model Essay & Practice

Task 1221 WordsBand 8.0+

The two maps illustrate the evolution of road access and facilities surrounding a city hospital between 2007 and 2010. Overall, the area around the hospital underwent a significant redevelopment during this three-year period, with major changes to the road network, car parking provision, and public transport infrastructure designed to improve traffic flow and patient/staff access. In 2007, City Hospital was encircled by Ring Road, with direct access primarily via Hospital Road, which intersected City Road at a simple T-junction. By 2010, this intersection had been replaced by a roundabout, and a second roundabout was introduced further along Hospital Road, just before the hospital entrance. This reconfiguration of Hospital Road aimed to streamline traffic flow. Regarding parking, the single combined car park for staff and public located to the east of Hospital Road in 2007 was entirely removed. In its place, two separate parking areas were established by 2010: a new public car park was created east of the hospital, accessible directly from Ring Road, while a smaller staff car park was strategically positioned west of Hospital Road, near the second roundabout. Furthermore, all six bus stops that lined Hospital Road in 2007 were removed and replaced by a large, dedicated bus station situated to the west of Hospital Road, close to the City Road roundabout, providing a centralized public transport hub.
