The bar chart illustrates the results of a survey conducted on coffee and tea purchasing and consumption habits across five different Australian cities. Overall, visiting a café for coffee or tea was the most prevalent activity in all cities, consistently outranking the purchase of either fresh or instant coffee. Furthermore, buying instant coffee generally exceeded buying fresh coffee, with Melbourne and Hobart showing the highest overall engagement in these habits. Looking at specific city data, Melbourne registered the highest percentages across two categories. 42% of its residents bought fresh coffee, while 48% purchased instant coffee. However, the most significant figure was its 64% of residents who had patronised a café in the preceding four weeks, the highest proportion among all cities. Sydney followed a similar pattern, with 44% buying fresh coffee and 45% opting for instant. Notably, a substantial 61% of Sydney residents had visited a café. Hobart also demonstrated high café attendance at 63%, though its rates for buying fresh (38%) and instant coffee (54%) were slightly lower than Melbourne's. In contrast, Brisbane and Adelaide exhibited comparatively lower participation in these coffee and tea-related activities. In Brisbane, only 35% of residents bought fresh coffee, and 52% bought instant, with 55% frequenting a café. Adelaide presented the lowest figure for fresh coffee purchases, at just 35%, which was equal to Brisbane's. Its instant coffee buying stood at 50%, while 50% also visited a café, making it the city with the lowest café attendance rate. A notable discernible trend across all five cities was that the proportion of residents purchasing instant coffee consistently exceeded those buying fresh coffee. This disparity was most pronounced in Hobart, where 54% bought instant coffee compared to 38% buying fresh, a difference of 16 percentage points.
