The two floor plans illustrate the significant changes in the layout of the Central Library over a 20-year period. Overall, the library has undergone a comprehensive modernisation, shifting from a traditional quiet study and resource centre to a more dynamic, technology-driven, and community-focused space, with several new facilities and a reorganisation of its core functions. Twenty years ago, the left side of the library featured distinct areas for CDs, videos, and computer games, alongside adult fiction books and a reading room for newspapers and magazines. Currently, this entire section has been substantially transformed. The previous reading room is now a dedicated Computer room, while the space once used for media now houses "Children's fiction books" and a "Storytelling events" area, complete with sofas. Additionally, "All reference books" are now consolidated in the central-left part of the library. In contrast, the right side and central area have also been extensively redeveloped. The children’s books, previously located in the top right, have been moved. An "Enquiry desk" for tickets and book returns has been replaced by an "Information desk" and several "Self-service machines" adjacent to "Adult fiction books." A notable addition is a new "Lecture room" in the top right corner. Furthermore, the central "Tables & chairs" area has been removed to make way for the relocated reference books, and a "Café" has been introduced in the bottom right, replacing part of the former adult non-fiction section.
